Ironwood Animal Carvings
Known as "Palofierro," desert ironwood is an extremely hard wood. It is one of the heaviest of woods--so dense that it sinks in water! Only dead trees found on the desert Sonora State in Mexico are utilized for our carvings.
Talented Mexican Indian Artisans use machetes and hatchets to form a basic shape, creating and adding finer detail with modern tools. Women and children gather together for the final sanding and polishing. Each piece is an original so no two are the same, varying in shape, color and grain. To maintain the brilliant luster of your pieces, shine with brown shoe polish using a soft cloth.
NOTE: We have removed several ironwood items for the time being, because of a lack of availability. What we have onhand is what you see!
